How I was Called to the Mission Field.
We were asked to blog about how we were called to this mission trip. Here’s my story…
Not long after becoming a Christ follower I began to fell like God was leading me to really step out and do something for him. My youth group was going on a mission trip to New Orleans so I decided to sign up. While we were there we spent half a day hanging out with kids from the projects. A lot of them were locked out of there houses while there parents were at work. It really just broke my heart to see all of these kids. When we got back home I just kinda forgot about it and shoved it to the back of my mind.
Almost one year later My youth group went on a retreat. The first day our youth pastor told us that a big focus of the retreat would be finding Gods purpose for our lives. So I began to pray that God would show me what it was he had planned for me. Two days went by and in my prayer time all I was able to think of were those children in New Orleans. On the last night of the retreat My youth pastor said he felt like God was really leading someone to work with children and specifically African children. I just broke down and knew that this was something God was calling me to do.
When I got home I began looking for mission trips to Africa but nothing really stood out. I kinda put it on the back burner and forgot about it for quite a while. Two years passed and I had graduated high school and was midway threw my freshman year of college. I started to pray about a Christian school that I thought God wanted me to attend and each time I would pray about it I would just hear God say a resounding NO. God reminded me of his plan for me and after extensive prayer I’m certain that this is where God is leading me.
Looking back I know that I was putting my plans before Gods and these verses have been a big help to me:
“A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5)
